Vegetarians and foodie fans can access the new blog post here:
http://thedailyradish.com/should-your-dog-and-cat-be-vegetarians-too/
In their latest blog post, Jenny Sangler explains that she and her husband decided to become vegetarians around 15 years ago, due in part to the concern for her husband?s health.
She goes on to explain that a friend of her casually inquired if Jenny and her husband had considered feeding their cat a vegetarian diet, too.
?I was a little embarrassed to tell her that a) I never thought of it and b) didn?t know if it was even possible. So I did what any self-respecting modern vegetarian would do: I looked it up,? Jenny says.
Conducting some research into the subject, Jenny points her readers towards an article by Dr. Justine Lee of PetMD, which explains that dogs and cats are not nutritionally equal.
Jenny makes it clear that, biologically, dogs are omnivores and cats are carnivores. This is due to the lack of amino acid taurine in cats, which opens them up to many types of heart disease. While vegetarian and vegan diets do exist for people?s feline friends, they are never recommended.
?On the other hand, dogs are omnivores and their bodies do make taurine on their own as needed. So, you can make your dog a vegetarian if you really want to. But Dr. Lee advises that they probably won?t like it,? Jenny adds.
Jenny concludes her blog post by explaining that she intends to keep her cat on a meat diet, but would seriously consider otherwise if they owned a dog.
?I have to say that I?m relieved that I don?t have to go through the process of finding vegetarian cat food. However, should we ever get a dog, I would seriously consider a vegetarian diet for it,? she writes.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) March 29, 2012
The Doctors Health Press, a publisher of various natural health newsletters books and reports, including the popular online Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin, is reporting on a new study that shows how pregnant women ? and, amazingly, their unborn babies as well ? derive benefits from a diet that includes fish.
As reported in the Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 (http://www.doctorshealthpress.com/food-and-nutrition-articles/amazing-discovery-about-this-superfood), researchers have demonstrated that the intake of salmon increases omega-3 fatty acid levels and improves antioxidant defenses in expectant mothers and their babies.
The Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin reports that the salmon used in the study were enriched with omega-3 fats and reared on a fish farm (where most of the salmon consumed in North America comes from).
The amount needed is at least two servings a week. (One ?serving? is about the size of a deck of cards.) They found that the fish boosts omega-3 levels in both mother and child. They also found that it improves antioxidant defenses in both, the trigger being selenium and retinol in the salmon.
The study started with pregnant women who had a low intake of fish. A control group continued with their regular diet, while the others ate two servings of salmon from about 20 weeks pregnant until they gave birth. The fish was omega-3 rich and had high levels of vitamin E, vitamin A, and selenium. These are all antioxidant nutrients.
The Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin also reports that they found that omega-3 levels improved when pregnant women who did not frequently eat fish ate two servings of salmon weekly. The same results were obtained for the newborns. Two servings let both reach their minimum recommended levels of omega-3s.
As for selenium and retinol, the increased levels might help prevent and reduce the additional oxidative stress associated with pregnancy. This kind of effect is one that can lead to inflammation and some chronic disease.

Vegetarians and foodie fans can access the new blog post here:

In their latest blog post, Jenny Sangler introduces readers to Annette Larkins, a 70 year-old American who is often mistaken for being 30 years younger.
Jenny provides links to ABC News and other news websites about Larkins? remarkable youthfulness.
With many women placing the fate of their looks in face cream and cosmetics, Jenny points out that Larkins places the cause of her youthfulness in her raw vegan diet.
?She grows fruit and vegetables in her garden, collects rainwater to drink and is an avid juicer? Jenny writes.
Jenny also includes some sound advice directly from Larkins herself:
?My diet consists of fruits, nuts, vegetables and seeds. I do a lot of sprouting of seeds?I am very vibrant, I have lots of energy, as I told you before, I am up no later than 5:30 in the morning as a rule, and I am ready to go.?
Following the advice, Jenny introduces readers to the argument of becoming a vegetarian for the benefit of good looks, rather than for ethical reasons. Jenny admits that Larkins presents a good case for her vegan choice, taking both her youthful looks and personality into consideration.
Concluding her post, Jenny admits that, while she wants to remain youthful in later life, it is not her main inspiration for adopting a vegetarian lifestyle.
?I honestly believe that my vegetarian diet increases my body?s energy levels and gives me a clearer mind. Since I gave up meat and included more fresh, living foods in my diet, I?ve banished lethargy and brain-fog? she says, discussing how her lifestyle choice will hopefully continue to benefit her as she grows older.
Finally, Jenny invites her readers to submit their own comments on stories about the pleasant side-effects of vegetarianism.
