im trying to loose 20-25 pounds. i work out and everything but when it comes to dieting, it just doesnt happen. and it doesnt help that my family buys really unhealthy food. i mean id love to eat healthy what should i do?
it is impossible to loose weight without a diet that is a fact. However by diet i do not think about those unhealthy pills or too less food or eat only vegetables etc. All you need to do is eat healthy and have at least 4 meals a day. You should be having 5-6 but 4 is also good. And a tip: If you eat slowly you usually eat less food cause you stop being hungry much sooner. Don’t rush and eat fast. Eat a lot of vegetables and fruit. When it comes to meat i suggest meat that is not specially prepared. I Suggest white meat from the chicken and turkey. Also if you eat too less food you won’t loose weight but you WILL feel tired. If you already workout this shouldn’t be a problem. Oh and also… you MUST eat breakfast. Good luck even though i don’t really think you’ll need it. If you start eating healthy you’ll see results in a week.
I know a girl who has been dieting since she was 13 and still is (she’s probably around 15 now). What are the chances of her getting an eating disorder? I’ve heard that like 86% of girls who diet at that age end up with one, is that true? What statistics do you have/know? I really would like to warn her parents, especially since they see nothing wrong with her behavior. I’m not sure if she’s throwing up in a bathroom or anything like that, but she definately is watching what she is eating, eating foods marked "low carb", keeping track of how many pounds she has lost, and exercises for the benefit of weight loss. Also looks like she could use a vitamin if you know what I mean..
Thanks to all who help.
chances are she probably has one she may not meet the qualifications for anorexia or bulimia but she could be EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified) which can become much more serious and turn into anorexia or bulimia . if you have an eating disorder you dont have to be underweight everyone has to start somewhere right? if she looks like she could us a vitamin id suggest asking her how many calories daily she averaging if she hesitates to answer then shes probably going to lie to make you think shes eating a regular amount if she says 1200 or 1500 she probably actually means 500-800 , telling her parents wont help a lot of adults dont understand it your friend should prbly get therapy or you could get her to talk to you and maybe even eat out with her make sure shes eating ATLEAST 1500 a day a 13 year old girl should be eating 2000 but if your friend has an eating disorder eating more then 1500 would make her freak out and when people with eating disorders freak out then they turn to puking…..i could keep going and goin and going but im gonna stop now
A girl I’m very close to (kinda dating, it’s complicated) that I’ve known for a few years has been gaining some weight, and I was wondering if there is a good way to tell her she should start dieting and exercising without hurting her feelings.
say she looks fat
for someone who isn’t trying to overdo it on the dieting but would like to start eating healthier and feel better. There is the obvious things to cut out of your diet, but as for other things, what have you found that staying away from really seems to help?
Try eating more fruits and veggies in place of other fatty meals, like junk food, cookies, or high calorie meals. Like most people (I’m guilty sometimes!), you’ve probably brainwashed yourself into thinking that fast food tastes better than healthy food, but that’s not entirely true! Try eating more grapes, clemintines, apples chunks in vanilla yogurt (good for sweet cravings!), blueberries, hummus (it sounds gross but it’s really not, especially with Wheat Thins or Food Should Taste Good brand whole grain chips! I personally like garden vegetable or tomato flavored), granola, low-fat yogurt, low-fat string cheese, LITE whole wheat bread, 100 – calorie popcorn / kettle corn bags, steamed broccoli with a buttery garlic sauce etc. I also snack on South Beach Diet oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, they’re good AND pretty healthy! And eat SLOWLY. Take one bite at a time, chew completely, then take another bite. If you eat slower, you’ll become fuller quicker, and you won’t overeat.
Incorporate more exercise into your daily life. Take the dog for a 20 minute walk, do jumping jacks while watching TV, do laps around the block, or the house for that matter. Don’t let yourself sit down for too long. If you can, get a gym membership. I use an elliptical for 30 minutes 5-6 times a week and it works great for me.
And don’t eat out of boredom! It’s a nasty habit to break, TRUST ME. Whenever you feel like eating, watch a movie with no commercial breaks so you don’t have time to get up, call a friend, read a book or magazine, or get out of the house, away from the food.
And don’t "DIET". Because the moment you go off your "diet", you’ll regain the all the weight you lost quickly, believe me. Instead, make "healthy living choices."
I recently lost weight, about 20 lbs, and what really helped for me was planning my meals. I planned when and what I was going to eat, and made sure the calorie count was 1400. It may be different depending on your needs, but never go under 1200! Whatever you do, don’t let yourself stray from your plan. Write it all down or type it out and leave it up on your computer so you don’t forget, that’s what I do.
You’ll never get to your "ideal" body by eating crap food and sitting around, no matter how much you want it to happen. It takes dedication to get the body you want! Make it like a game. How much weight can I lose? Prove it to yourself you DO have the willpower to get what you want. Hang pictures of the body type you want on the fridge and cupboard to stop yourself from mindless snacking or overeating.
But allow yourself a cheat day every now and then. Life is too short! If you restrict your body of all the "good foods", you will one day EXPLODE and eat everything in sight. Trust me!
One more thing: Once you do become thinner, DON’T think you can eat whatever you want now! You’ll regain all the weight back, which is absolutely mortifying, especially after all the hard work to lose it.
Good luck! Hope that helps (:
OH, and sitting up straight burns more calories than slouching. Try it!
I want to lose weight, but I love sweet treats and tend to have them every day. Could I have, say, 90 calorie frozen yogurt every day or would that hurt my dieting? Sometimes I even have fruit.
Find something naturally sweet and jsut eat a small portion to satisfy the urge for desserts. But do enjoy yourself every once in a while. Good Luck
I have been dieting for 3 weeks and want to keep it up. I did diet and bacardi before but that gets old. Any suggestions? I am going to a party and wanna have a few drinks with out totalling botching my diet?
It’s not so much the alcohol as it is the mixers. Sweet and sour mix, fruit juices, and things like that are FULL of sugar! Try getting used to drinks like martini’s and other drinks that are centered around the alcohol itself, not the mixer. Something else you can do is start making them old school, like how they used to be made before premade mixes were available in stores. Here’s a website that has a lot of really good recipes.

I am a 23 year old mom, and feel I need to lose about 5 to 8 lbs. I’ve been told that fish is good to eat when dieting, but was not sure exactly which ones were the best. Thanks.
salmon…..its very healthy
My friend and I are dieting and we measured ourselves so when should we measure ourselves and weigh ourselves again? Like a week, a month, how long?
=) thanks.
i say every week… every month is too long cuz then u wont get to see if what ur doing is really working (for ex.) and every day is too little cuz if there are no results u might get discouraged… losing weight takes time so definitely weighing urselves every week is perfect.. oh and when u do weigh urself do it in the morning…thatll give u ur accurate weight.. good luck
I am failry muscular but also put on weight quickly. I have a history of working out, eating a lot, and dieting to get back down to decent weight. I have a normal 20 pound range through the year and whenever I get near the top, I get more serious about cutting back and can get back down.
My problem is that I can never get beyond my lowpoint no matter how hard I try.
What can I do to break through this plateau?
take 1 day and eat whatever you want.
It’ll shock your body and might just break your plateau
Ive tried so many dieting techniques, some im not proud of, and i can’t seem to lose weight. Im 16 and i do 4 hours of excersise at school a week, and 2 hours out of school.
Help!
Your biggest problem without a doubt is that you’re completely overtraining! By working out 2-3 hrs/day about 5 days a week, you’re body is screaming for precious recovery time and has most likely severely plateaued. Your body absolutely needs quality time to recover from intense workouts and without this, it will simply start shutting down. I highly recommend cutting back on your training and focusing on only 1 hour of intense training per day for a maximum of 4 days a week. Its great to break up your 1 hour training routine into 30 minutes of high intensity weight training and finishing off with 30 minutes of high intensity cardio training. Push each weight training set to positive failure and really work your muscles. Once your weight training is finished, move right into your cardio routine. Choose high intensity cardio exercises which will burn more calories and keep your body’s metabolism stoked throughout the day. Great examples are sprints, jumping rope and spinning. This may also stimulate muscle growth and strength in your weight training routine.
The second major thing is to really look at what your eating everyday. Make sure you document everything you eat and drink into a diet journal.M ake sure to limit all simple sugars (fruit, etc.) after 6pm. Your insulin levels are very sensitive at night and it will be much easier to store extra fat if you consume sugars later in the day. Stick with a lean protein and non-starchy carbs. A great meal would be a grilled chicken breast salad with romaine lettuce, sliced cucumbers and a little balsamic vinaigrette dressing. You could also opt for a nice chicken breast/veggie stir fry. Throw some broccoli, mushrooms and chicken into a stir fry pan with a touch of soy sauce. This makes a great meal for later in the day!
